The Upper East Side Has a New Landmark!
The Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) voted on Tuesday, December 13th to designate the wooden house at 412 East 85th Street as the newest individual landmark on the Upper East Side.
A Celebration of all things Yorkville!
On Saturday, April 30th, FRIENDS and the Historic Districts Council hosted “Yorkville: A Celebration of Home” at the lovely Bohemian National Hall, an individual New York City landmark. Held in the Hall’s stunning Grand Ballroom, Majda Kallab Whitaker of the Bohemian Benevolent & Literary Association provided a fascinating overview of the Hall’s history and careful restoration.

Friends of the Upper East Side Historic District (FRIENDS) and prominent local and national preservation groups, along with elected officials, have filed an amicus curiae brief on behalf of the City of New York in an ongoing battle to stop the demolition of two historic properties.
Recent opposition to the Frick expansion from HDC and the New York Times
Last week the Historic Districts Council released a statement opposing the proposed Frick expansion, saying among other things that “HDC finds the proposal in its current form to be a myopic solution for expansion, and one that would compromise the museum’s setting and genteel atmosphere.
