FRIENDS' Testimony:

The Preservation Committee at FRIENDS is sympathetic to the plight of the business owner at 1016 Lexington Avenue. While the current awning does not conform to the Landmarks Preservation Commission rules, it is modest and attractive; especially when compared to the egregious, though grandfathered, awnings of its neighbors. As this assembly is not a permanent fixture and will be replaced with a single panel when the commercial tenant changes, our committee recommends legalization of this awning.
