FRIENDS' Testimony:

FRIENDS’ Preservation Committee supports the proposed façade restoration of this rowhouse. The reintroduction of first-floor fanlights through the removal of solid infill arches and non-historic concrete lintels, the cleaning of the limestone base, the reinstatement of the balustrade, the return of the windows to their original divided-light configuration, and the restoration of the French doors all appropriate as they reinforce the building’s historic character within the Upper East Side Historic District. We ask that the Commission ensure the brickwork is undertaken with great care to avoid damage to historic materials.

We also support the proposed alterations to the rear façade, including the creation of new window openings. However, the rooftop addition remains too visible from street level. We urge the Commission to require a deeper front setback to further reduce its visibility and better protect the integrity of the historic streetscape.
