FRIENDS' Testimony:

FRIENDS appreciates the replacement of the existing black aluminum windows, which do not do any favors for this building. The new bronze windows will be an improvement, and we appreciate that the applicant has worked to modify the proposal by retaining the transoms on the second floor. While the applicant has kept the appearance of the double-hung windows on the upper floors, we would prefer these windows to reflect their actual operation, and ideally be true double-hung windows, rather than a faux version.

In addition, the bay front was a thoughtfully-designed addition by I.N. Stokes, and we feel that it is important to retain double-hung windows here, and throughout the upper floors of the building. While we understand that the building is used as an art gallery, we think that the single-pane windows on the ground floor do enough to convey this commercial use, and would prefer the remaining windows to be true double-hung windows in order to retain this building’s residential character.
