FRIENDS' Testimony:
FRIENDS Preservation Committee takes no issue with the replacement of the unglazed terra cotta elements with cast stone. Both terra cotta and cast stone are fabricated in a similar manner, which should yield a comparable level of detail. Additionally, because the replaced elements are located above the 13th floor, they will be less visible from the public thoroughfare and further blend in with the remaining materials. Cast stone is commonly used to replace historic materials given its durability, making it an appropriate choice for this structure. Finally, we commend the applicant for the establishment of a master plan to ensure the preservation of this early 20th century building.
