FRIENDS' Testimony:

The Preservation Committee at FRIENDS encourages all property owners to meet code requirements, and we are delighted to review interesting and unusual means of doing so. In this case, elongation of the balconies is an intriguing solution to the problem of inadequate rail height. However, the original design employs a variety of heights for the parapets, and we question the choice that has been made to regularize all parapet heights to the required 42-inch minimum. We are concerned that this uniform response will change the perception of this important J.E.R. Carpenter design.

We ask that the Commission work closely with the applicant to ensure the best outcome in design, while achieving the requirements of the Building Code.
