FRIENDS' Testimony:
FRIENDS’ Preservation Committee recognizes that Madison Avenue must remain flexible and evolve to meet the changing needs and aesthetic preferences of new retailers. However, we believe that master plans exist to ensure the long-term preservation and coherence of the streetscape. We encourage the tenant to explore alternative creative solutions for expressing the brand’s “gold” identity without requiring changes to the approved window master plan. We also believe the proposed brand typeface at the main entrance door could be reduced in size, and we do not support the placement of any branding on the second-floor windows.
On the 67th Street façade, we find that the combination of the gold metal bars located immediately behind the storefront glazing on the second floor and the existing black horizontal louvers at the adjacent bay creates an unnecessary visual conflict that should be reconsidered. Finally, we request the specifications for the proposed vertical storefront lighting and ask whether the system will be dimmed during nighttime hours.
