FRIENDS' Testimony:

The architect’s goal at 1030 Fifth Avenue is for the proposed rooftop addition to feel like it is part of the system of trelliswork in place at the penthouse level. However, it was challenging for the Preservation Committee at FRIENDS to evaluate this proposal without further documentation on the existing system of trellises. From the materials supplied, the addition does not read as trellis, but as a solid unarticulated mass enclosed in latticework. As this project is prominently visible along East 84th Street, from as far as Lexington Avenue, our committee insists on a careful consideration of this design and asks that more information be supplied before the Commission makes a determination on this project.
