LPC Hearing: 10/28/25
FRIENDS' Testimony:
FRIENDS’ Preservation Committee cannot support this application to enlarge the existing windows in the non-historic third-floor rooftop addition of this classic carriage house. We believe the existing arrangement of the 1971 rooftop addition’s windows should be retained, as it mirrors the historic window pattern below and preserves the central blank wall between the openings.
If the applicant requires additional light on the top floor, we recommend exploring alternatives such as skylights or the removal of only a couple of rows of brick above the existing windows, not the six rows as proposed, as the addition is already visible from across 77th Street and would result in excessive glazing.
