A neo-Renaissance style apartment building designed by Electus D. Litchfield & Pliny Rogers and built in 1925. Application is to establish a master plan governing the future installation of windows.

FRIENDS' Testimony:
FRIENDS has long been an advocate for windows master plans. We applaud the thorough historic research that went into this project and appreciate the applicant’s initiative to propose a consistently-applied Master Plan for the windows of this neo-Renaissance apartment building.
FRIENDS Preservation Committee would have wished to see the historic casement windows on the second floor, and the eight-over-eight and four-over-four double hung with a wider central muntin on the third floor incorporated into the Master Plan. Nonetheless, we appreciate the proposal for the multi-light sashes. So many of the Park Avenue buildings have already lost this layer of architectural detail by replacing their historic windows with single pane glazing in the name of uniformity, it would be most unfortunate to include 800 Park in this list.
Finally, while not original to the building, we believe the leaded historic windows at the courtyard are truly special. Their configuration is very similar to the original and proposed casement windows, and their different patterns do not create a hodgepodge of openings, instead complement the unique character of this building. We ask the applicant to include a provision on the Master Plan that allows for these windows to be retained and replaced in kind.
