FRIENDS Testimony:
The New York Society Library is an important and beloved institution on the Upper East Side, and we generally support their much-needed expansion plan. We appreciate that they are filling in their nooks and crannies instead of building a major addition.
The proposed addition is muted, reversible, and not visible from any public thoroughfare. Overall, a benign intervention that will allow for the Library to function more efficiently. FRIENDS’ only concern is regarding the capacity of the proposed storage. We commend the Library in its strategic thinking to enable the entire collection to be stored on-site. However, if space needs increase in the future, we would encourage an exploration of off-site storage.
