FRIENDS' Testimony:
FRIENDS Preservation Committee commends the sensitive approach taken with the proposed modifications to the building façade. We especially appreciate the attention to historical detail in the replacement of windows to match the style of the building’s original 6 over 6 double hung windows, which our committee had encouraged the building’s then owners to consider at the Certificate of Appropriateness hearing in 2009. The new windows,
together with the ground floor façade modifications to reveal the details of the stonework on the limestone base of this Schwartz and Gross apartment hotel, will create a more unified and balanced façade.
FRIENDS Preservation Committee does, however, lament the fact that the presentation materials do not include the parts of the proposal that will be subject to staff-level review. We feel that this has an impact on the understanding of the full scope of alterations to the building.
