FRIENDS' Testimony:

On the Upper East Side, landmarked examples of vernacular architecture are scarce. Therefore, FRIENDS Preservation Committee commends the preservation of this admirable mid-19th-century residential brick architecture and the character it brings to the street and neighborhood. While we largely support the design of the front façade and understand the new tenant’s security concerns, we believe alternative design and technology solutions can address these needs without the installation of security gates, which would detract from the entryway's prominence. Furthermore, FRIENDS supports the proposed rear façade, appreciating its sensible, minimal design and the well-considered sequence and rhythm of window openings across floors.
