FRIENDS' Testimony:
FRIENDS' Preservation Committee finds that the proposed changes to the 94th Street façade are highly visible and inappropriate. The proposed conversion of an existing door into a window disrupts the established fenestration pattern of the building, as it interrupts a continuous vertical alignment of narrow window openings that define this bay above the existing door. In addition, the introduction of louvered openings at the ground floor is not appropriate within the historic context of the façade. The Committee also objects to the removal of historic fabric on the courtyard’s blank side wall and to the creation of new punched opening within existing masonry to accommodate louvers. These concerns are compounded by the proposed installation of heat exhaust equipment behind the louvers. For these reasons, the Committee recommends denial.
