Twentieth Century Moderns: East 70s and 80s

Join FRIENDS for an exciting new series of walking tours led by veteran tour guide and architectural historian Matthew Postal, exploring the rich legacy of modernist architecture and design on the Upper East Side.

Of the various architectural styles that left their mark on the Upper East Side, buildings dating from after 1930 are frequently overlooked. From Moderne to Postmodern and more, we will explore elegant and bold (and sometimes controversial) designs by the architects Walker & Poor, Horace Ginsbern, Philip Johnson and Robert Stern, among others. En route, we'll also view Alexander Calder's marvelous terrazzo sidewalk, a unique work in the artist's career.
