1120-1130 Lexington Avenue

THEN
Constructed in 1923, this two-story painted brick commercial structure was built five years after the opening of the Lexington Avenue subway station at 77th Street. Though the storefronts have been updated many times, the second story retains many of the original Adamesque details, including the neoclassical ornament and multiple urns. It was designed by Charles B. Meyers, an architect who specialized in civic structures, including the New York City Department of Health Building in Lower Manhattan and numerous public hospitals.
