News from FRIENDS – Fall 2024

FRIENDS Fall 2024 Newsletter is now available!

This issue covers a wide range of topics, from FRIENDS' recent advocacy efforts to the preservation of modernist architecture on the Upper East Side. A special focus on Yorkville highlights the neighborhood's history and addresses recent concerns about affordable housing loss. You'll also find updates on the Young FRIENDS education program and the renovation  of The Frick Collection.

In her Letter from the President, Franny Eberhart emphasizes the importance of citizen engagement in preserving the Upper East Side's unique character and architectural legacy. She stresses that organizations like FRIENDS play a crucial role in advocating for responsible development and protecting the neighborhood's unique identity. Eberhart quotes Philip Howard, the 2024 Ambassador of the Upper East Side, who underscores the power of citizen participation:

"Good government is impossible without an active citizenry. Citizen groups like Friends can mitigate the negative impacts of political decisions and introduce new priorities of social concern. I learned early on that citizens who unite for a just cause can influence significant change."
