FRIENDS' Testimony:
The proposed extension of the chimney flues at 1112 Park Avenue is much too visible and overwhelms the water tower – a distinctive detail of this building. The multiple flues are inelegant and exacerbate the already unsightly flue running up the top of the facade. We question the need to raise these flues up and over at such a visible angle, and would suggest finding a more compact, discreet way around the code requirements. We ask the Commission to deny this application as proposed, and have the applicant work with staff to create a less visible solution so as not to detract from the historic water tower enclosure.
