Author Truman Capote lived at 1060 Park Avenue, northwest corner of 87th Street, with his mother and stepfather in the 1940s and possibly again in the early 1950s. During this period, he published many short stories in journals and magazines, as well as his first novel, Other Voices, Other Rooms, a semi-autobiographical work that appeared on the best seller list for nine weeks in 1948. Subsequent Capote residences included “a small flat” on Second Avenue and East 58th Street in 1949, as well as 860 United Nations Plaza (East 49th Street) in the 1960s.
