Upper East Side Modern Walking Tour

Join FRIENDS and John Arbuckle (Assoc. AIA, President of DOCOMOMO US/New York Tri-State) for a walking tour exploring important examples of Modern architecture amidst the celebrated array of Beaux Arts, Colonial Revival, and other landmarks of the Upper East Side.  Discover Modern highlights in the East 60s and 70s, both in and near the Upper East Side Historic District, including some of New York’s earliest remaining examples. The tour will visit residential and institutional buildings designed by William Lescaze, Philip Johnson, Edward Durell Stone, Paul Rudolph, Gordon Bunshaft of SOM, Marcel Breuer, and others.

*John Arbuckle has spearheaded a campaign to protect the interiors of the former Whitney Museum of American Art at 945 Madison Avenue.  The effort seeks to recognize the building's significance by designating it a New York City Interior Landmark.
