Join FRIENDS for a captivating series of walking tours that delve into the rich history and diverse cultures of Yorkville.
This walking tour with historian Matt Postal considers often unnoticed mid-block structures, including public and private institutions designed in various architectural styles. Learn about how these organizations served Yorkville’s growing immigrant community and how these mostly early 20th century structures continue to be used today. Highlights include New York City's first Carnegie branch library, day nurseries, elementary and parochial schools, and the oldest psychoanalytical institute in the United States.
This program is supported by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
