Join us on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, for a special book event with author Matthew White, as he discusses his latest publication, New York Minute: Public Clocks That Make The City Tick (Abbeville Press, 2025). The book examines New York City’s public clocks and their role in shaping daily life before personal timepieces became widespread. Matthew White documents notable clocks across the city—from Grand Central Terminal to shopping districts, churches, and neighborhood streets—including the Yorkville Sidewalk Clock. Illustrated with more than 150 historical and contemporary images and the author’s drawings, the book combines visual documentation with urban history and underscores the importance of preserving these clocks as part of the city’s historic urban fabric.

Selected works of art related to timekeeping and New York City will be on display. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing by the author. Refreshments will be served following the program.

About the Author: Matthew White is a noted interior designer, antiquarian, and preservationist, and a former ballet dancer. He is the author of Italy of My Dreams: The Story of an American Designer’s Real-life Passion for Italian Style and lives in the Hudson Valley.
