Join FRIENDS of the Upper East Side Historic Districts as we honor Philip K. Howard with the 2024 Ambassador of the Upper East Side Award. Over the years Philip's civic commitment expanded beyond his early years as an officer and Chair of the Municipal Art Society to becoming one of America’s leading thinkers on governing frameworks. His seven books, from The Death of Common Sense (1995) to Everyday Freedom (2024), continue to be national beacons for a humanistic governing vision. The reform coalition he formed in 2002, Common Good, collaborates with leading universities and think tanks to present new governing frameworks to deal with endemic social challenges. Philip is a visionary thinker and an exemplar of the moral authority earned through New York City's long tradition of civic leadership.
