Serving the ongoing growing community of Hungarians, the Church of St. Elizabeth of Hungary was built in 1894 by architect Henry F. Erhardt. The interior and stain glass of the building truly was one of a kind. As the Slovakian population like the rest of Yorkville’s immigrant communities decreased, the church became New York’s official church for the deaf holding services in sign language. However, the church shut its doors on its congregation in 2016. Combining with another parish, Church of St. Monicas a couple blocks down. The church was bought out by developers in with its fate unknown except a slight hint of movement in 2024 trying to illegally demo the site. As of right now the church remains boarded up and abandoned.
