Beyond the Bricks — December 2022 neighborhood walks

In December and early January, FRIENDS partnered with Art on the Ave and Manhattan Sideways to lead a series of free, guided neighborhood walks to explore some of the sites and artworks featured in our current exhibition, BEYOND THE BRICKS. The project documents the history and stories of small businesses and the historic buildings in which they are located, combining original research, writing, photography, and work by local artists, to spark conversations about the unique character of the Upper East Side, and what makes a community "beyond the bricks."

If you missed our neighborhood walks, you can still view the artwork and history panels at the ground floor space on Third Avenue and 74th Street (former Duane Reade store). Take a stroll by any time to enjoy from the sidewalk. You can also take a self-guided tour of the buildings and spaces featured in the exhibition using the interactive map, located here.
