This French Renaissance Revival structure was built in 1903-04 as the school of Our Lady of Good Counsel. Standing less than two blocks from the parish church on East 90th Street, it was designed by F. A. de Meuron, an architect specializing in religious structures. Similar in design to his (former) Ascension School on West 108th Street, it features arched entrances, keyed window enframements, and a mansard roof. A visiting superintendent of schools praised the structure in 1909, writing that students “will be as well trained for the struggle of life as any graduates in the city.”
